Best thing about JeffEM: The support from all the residents and attendings! Everyone understands how scary it is in the beginning of residency and is more than willing to help you with anything!

5 Year Plan: Graduate residency, fellowship?, hopefully get a job in the area so I can keep going to Sixers games

EM interests: Medical Education, EMS
5 Year Plan: Buy a Tesla so that I can eat snacks and watch Netflix while it’s driving me 🙂
Best thing about JeffEM: Going to be basic and say ~the people~ like everyone else but they truly are incredible people, super friendly and always willing to help out and check on you. Location is another great part – being in Center City, you see a lot of sick people so it’s an awesome place to train.

5 Year Plan: I would like to complete a fellowship after completing residency and work in an academic/teaching hospital where I can continue to work with medical students and residents. 
Best thing about JeffEM: All of the staff in the ED are approachable and always willing to help. 

Brian Tanksley, MD

Hobbies/Interests: If it’s outdoors, I probably like it. Also board games + LoL. Skiing, ultimate frisbee, mtn biking, surfing, woodworking, pyrotechnics, scuba diving, hiking/backpacking/camping, English-style horseback riding (western is fun too)
EM interests: Wilderness medicine, ultrasound
5 Year Plan: Finish residency, decide about staying in Philly because it is remarkably lovely, versus going somewhere with skiing closer. Get a job, volunteer on ski patrol and search & rescue, live in the suburbs.
Best thing about JeffEM: Rooftop gatherings with friends, lots of support from the other classes

 

Kathryn Paparella, MD

Hobbies/Interests: Baking, painting, exploring Philly’s food and wine scene, spending time with my husband and my cats
EM interests: Medical education, health policy, advocacy
5 Year Plan: I’m still figuring out the specifics, but most importantly, I want to become the best EM doc I can be!
Best thing about JeffEM: The people are great! And I love that I’m training at a hospital that sees such a wide variety of patients and pathology.

EM interests: Not sure yet. But ultrasound is really fun!
5 Year Plan: Convince my entire family to finally move somewhere tropical. Find some way to work and live abroad. Get a hairless dog or cat.
Best thing about JeffEM: What’s not to like about JeffEM?! Everyone has been so kind and welcoming it has really made the transition from medical school to residency so much fun. And I feel like in such a short time I have gotten to be involved in so many interesting cases. Looking forward to the next few years 🙂

Best thing about JeffEM: People actually LIKE what they do! It makes coming to work everyday exciting and meaningful.

5 Year Plan: Live in an airstream or a houseboat, work in the community, take up climbing, finish an ultra (50+ miles)
Best thing about JeffEM: The similarity to Olive Garden, “when you’re here you’re family”, the seriously good vibes and supportive team atmosphere shared by everyone who works here are a blessing that make me look forward to coming in to work.

EM interests: I have no idea, I’m still trying to figure that out lol
