Most frequent questions and answers

Shift length varies depending on the ED with 8hr, 10hr and occasional 12hr shifts. In general, ED interns work 10hr shifts while seniors work 8hr shifts. 

Yes, opportunities for in-house moonlighting are available to senior residents in good academic standing.

Since the Hahnemann closure in July 2019 we are proud to have expanded our residency to 17 residents each academic year. We are a 3 year ACGME program.

Yes, at Jefferson we have had a consistent supply of PPE (gowns, N95s, & face-shields). In fact TJUH ED residents are some of the only residents to have our own PAPR hoods. Residents are never put in a position where they have to compromise their safety to provide patient care.

Not necessarily though most residents do end up having access to a car during their residency at TJUH. As interns a car is needed mainly needed for your 1 month of Peds EM at A.I. duPont in Wilmington, DE. Some residents without a car choose to borrow or rent during this month. As seniors, almost all off-service sites are accessible by public transportation, though having access to a car will make your life easier during those rotations. 

PGY-2 residents have 2 weeks of elective time and PGY-3 are allotted 4 weeks. In the past residents have used this time to pursue fellowship interests, electives at Jefferson, as well as international opportunities.
